STEP 1: MEASURE WITH EXCITEMENT

Get your measuring tape ready and approach this step with excitement. Whether your project is a fireplace, accent wall, or an entry way, precise measurements are essential for accurate calculations. To get started, you will need to measure 3 areas of your project:

1A) TOTAL SURFACE AREA

Measure the height and length of the total surface area that you plan to cover with stone veneer, that includes both the flat sections and the corner sections of the wall or surface.

1B) SURFACE AREA OF OPENINGS

If you have any areas that don’t require stone, like windows and door openings, be sure to note those heights and lengths measurements to get the total opening area. This will be deducted from your total stone requirements.

1C) LINEAL FOOTAGE

Measure the outside corners of your wall by adding up the height of each outside corner, this will give you the total lineal footage or corners required. Be sure to convert your total lineal footage to feet.

STEP 2: EMBRACE THE POWER OF MATH

Don't worry, we promise this math won't bite! In order to calculate the total square feet of Flats and total linear feet of Corners for your project, you will need to do some easy math.

  • CORNERS - LINEAL FOOTAGE

Calculate how many lineal feet of Corners are required:

Lineal footage of Corners = From step 1C, add together the total lineal footage of all corners to be covered. This will tell you how many feet of corners your project requires.

  • FLATS - SQUARE FOOTAGE

Calculate how many square feet of Flats are required:

    1. From step 1A, add together the total surface area and convert to square feet. To do this, multiply your total height by total length in feet and divide by 144.
    2. From step 1B, subtract the square footage of your surface area openings.
    3. Take your linear footage required and multiply it by 0.75 and subtract this number from your total square footage.

Square Footage of Flats = (Total Surface Area – Surface Area of Openings) – (Lineal Footage x 0.75)

STEP 3: FACTOR IN THE CUTS

To account for any cuts and waste, it's recommended to add a little extra to your calculation. We suggest adding 10% to 15% to the total square footage. This additional amount ensures that you have enough stone veneer to accommodate for cuts, corners, and any unexpected variations.

Total Lineal Footage of Corners Required = Lineal Footage x Waste Factor

Total Square Footage of Flats Required = Square Footage x Waste Factor
